Although the weather still feels distinctly un-summery here on the Cote d’Azur, be assured that the summer season is just around the corner.
And one way to tell is that the events calendar at the Polo Club St Tropez is starting to get busy, with a number of prominent tournaments being held next month.
The Polo Club St Tropez has become one of the most respected clubs in Europe since it was established in 1998 on a 30 acre site in Gassin, a picturesque village which is hugely popular with clients using our service by helicopter from Monaco to St Tropez.
Over the last 15 years many of the world’s best polo players have come to compete at the Polo Club Saint Tropez, watched by a loyal fan club which regularly includes royalty, film stars and an international jet, many of whom arrive by helicopter from Monaco to St Tropez. Alternatively they might charter a luxury yacht from Cannes, arriving in the festival town by helicopter from Cannes to Monaco, and then sailing to Saint Tropez.
Polo, supposedly the chosen game of kings, is one of the oldest sports in history. It is believed to have been invented in Persia around 2,000 years ago, before catching on in India in the 13th century. British army officers and tea plantation starting playing in the 1800s and the first active club – the Calcutta Polo Club – was set up in 1863.
This year the Polo Club St Tropez will celebrate its 15th anniversary, marked by the first tournament of the season. The event, being held from May 31st until June 9th, is one of the most important on the circuit this year, and is expected to be attended by many of the sports finest players.
Also being held to celebrate the auspicious occasion is a Polo BBQ, being held on June 7th at the club.
Meanwhile, other important events this summer are:
- Saint-Tropez Ladies’ Amateur (June 12 – 16)
- Var Tournament ( June 14 – 23)
- International Polo Cup Saint-Tropez ( July 4 – July 14)
- Open de Gassin (July 18 – July 28)

- Open du Polo Club Saint-Tropez (August 8 – August 25)
- Open du Soleil (August 21 – August 31)

The club also has an excellent restaurant, La Table du Polo, which is open every day for lunch and dinner, outside tournament dates.
