Best golf clubs on the Riviera

The Riviera is home to several of Europe’s best golf courses, and many are easily accessible by luxury helicopter transfer.

1. Golf Country Club Cannes-Mougins
Set in the spectacular Parc de Valmasque Forest, this fantastic 18 hole 71 par course is over 6300m long and boasts some of the widest and lushest fairways you’re likely to find. Former players to have teed off here include Sergio Ballesteros and Ian Woosnam. Several natural water hazards have been integrated into the landscape, offering a stern test to even the most skilled golfers.

2. Monte Carlo Golf Club

Although not strictly located in Monte Carlo, the Monte Carlo Gold Club is one of the most famous in the region. Nearly 1000m above sea level in La Turbie, the course offers views over mountains and far out into the Mediterranean. From the fifth hole it is actually possible to see into France, Monaco and Italy. There is also an excellent restaurant serving fine food and superb regional wine to refresh you after your exploits.

3. Golf Country Club De Saint Donat

Nestled between Cannes and Grasse, this magnificent course is one of the more challenging on this list but that should by no means deter you from visiting. It was designed by noted golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr and is considered by many in the area to be some of his most beautiful work. The club is just a very short helicopter transfer from St Tropez and the journey offers spectacular views over the French countryside.

4. Golf De St Endreol

The Golf De St Endreol is internationally regarded as the best course on this list and is ranked number 14 overall by Golf Europeen magazine, as well as being considered by Golf Magazine to be one of the top 18 French courses. With nearly 6000m to play across this is also one of the more physically demanding clubs on this list. However, there is also a spa on site where you can unwind, rest and recuperate after a game.

5. Terre Blanche

As with all the courses on this list, it is easy to reach Terre Blanche by helicopter transfer from Monaco, Nice, St Tropez and Cannes. There are actually two courses located within the estate and it was formerly owned by Sean Connery. One of the courses is the 18 hole Chateau course which is accessible for anyone with a handicap under 35, whereas the other is available club members and their guests as well as guests of the hotel. Be sure to book in advance as this is an extremely popular location.
