Val d’Isère is a ski resort famous for its extensive slopes, good snow record and charming village centre. The resort’s impressive statistics reveal 300km of piste, a huge 10,000 hectares of off-piste and high-altitude skiing on no less than 2 glaciers. However, it’s not just the miles of piste that attract our luxury ski transfer clients to Val d’Isère; the resort also boasts a busy calendar of world-class events. From the Polo Masters to the Frostgun Invitational, we bring you our pick of the best.
Criterium de la Premiere Neige – December 13th-15th, 20th-22nd
The ‘races of the first snowfall’ are something of a tradition in Val d’Isère. In 2014 the resort celebrates its 57th year of hosting the competition which brings the world’s top male and female skiers to compete in Downhill, Super G and Slalom races on the La Daille pistes. The event’s list of prize winners reads like a ski champions roll call for the past 50 years! Entry to all the races and events is free.
Christmas – December 24th-25th
The festive season is a magical time to visit Val d’Isère, with a guaranteed white Christmas and a host of entertainment in resort. The Christmas lights are switched on in early December and numerous festive events follow including concerts, seasonal markets and live music. Many of our clients chose our executive transfers from Geneva during the festive period in order to maximise both slope and relaxation time. Christmas Eve is normally marked with a carol concert outside the Tourist Office, a street parade and a visit from Father and Mother Christmas with their helpers. The church of St Bernard de Menthon in the centre of Val d’Isère also holds several services.
New Year’s Eve – December 31st 2013
Val d’Isère is the ideal resort to see in the New Year in style. The evening is normally a lively affair with many bars holding their own parties and restaurants serving special menus. Nearly all the venues in the town centre will empty as the New Year approaches. Crowds will then take to the streets to hear the church bells strike midnight and watch the accompanying fireworks display.
The Frostgun Invitational – February 12th to 14th & 27th to 28th 2014
The second annual Frostgun Invitational will take place at the foot of Face de Bellevarde in the heart of Val d’Isère next February. The event will see the world’s best freestyle skiers show-off their skills on a truly enormous jump. The competition will be accompanied by a superb musical line up with DJs from all over the world. Some skiers are expected to attend following the Sochi Winter Olympics making this the ideal opportunity to catch Champions in the flesh.
Polo Masters – 15th January 2014 to 18th January 2014 5:00pm – 7:30pm
Why not take a helicopter transfer to Val d’Isere to enjoy some polo with a twist! The games of the Polo masters tournament are all held on a snow covered pitch on the roof of the Aqua leisure centre at the foot of the Bellevarde pistes! These matches are extremely fast moving and make an exciting evening out for all the family.
